State renewal guide

How to Renew Your Texas Contractor License in 2026

Texas has no statewide general-contractor license — but the trades do. Electrical, HVAC, and plumbing licenses are issued by the TDLR (and TSBPE for plumbing) and renew annually, most with continuing-education hours.

When it's due

Annually, on your license's cycle. TDLR notifies you, but the renewal is yours to file before it expires.

How to renew

Complete your required CE (e.g. HVAC requires 8 hours), renew online through TDLR (or TSBPE for plumbing), and pay the fee before expiration.

What trips people up

The annual cycle plus CE means you can't leave it to the last minute — the hours have to be done first. Different trades sit under different boards with different dates.

Never miss a renewal again
